Asia is the only region in the world where the nuclear industry continues to build nuclear power stations on a significant scale. Citizens’ opposition is also strong in many Asian countries.
Demonstrations in Taiwan attract tens of thousands of people calling for the country to become nuclear-free. Scandals have seriously damaged the Japanese nuclear industry.
The poster above comes from South Korea, where there is a thriving anti-nuclear movement.
WISE Amsterdam maintains active links with anti-nuclear groups in Asian countries, and is almost the only Western NGO that regularly attends the No Nukes Asia Forum.
