About the author: Peter Diehl, born in 1954, was for many years speaker of the
Citizen Committee Against Uranium Mining in the Southern Black Forest (Germany). The committee struggled against the planned commercial operation of the Menzenschwand uranium exploration mine. From 1988, he visited many uranium mining sites in Europe. In 1991, he organized a European conference of citizen comittees opposed to uranium mining, the first conference of its kind after the fall of the iron curtain.
