LATEST: NUCLEAR TESTS
On May 15, only a few days after the NPT extension conference, China conducted a nuclear test explosion.
While there is no official word yet from France's newly-elected president, Jacques Chirac, it is likely that France will again be testing in the Pacific.
Even the US, it seems, is rethinking its moratorium on nuclear testing and is likely to conduct several tests next year with a yield of less than 200 kilotonnes TNT. "Small" explosions such as these are likely to be allowed in a (possible) Test Ban Treaty.
