(392.3827) WISE Amsterdam - This accident took place in the Shanxi province. The Co-60 source had disappeared from a radiation facility in the Xinzhou District.
The lost source was found by a man called Zhang Youchang. He, his brother and his father died between December 3 and December 10 due to radiation exposure from the source. More than 90 other people who might have been exposed to the source have been examined. According to a spokesperson for the Department of Nuclear Power in China, only five of them were found to have been overexposed and they "have received appropriate medical treatment".
Although a report of the accident was sent to the International Atomic Energy Agency's International Nuclear Event Scale Information System, there is no mention of the exposure levels of the victims who survived the accident. Neither the present medical situation nor the radiation facility concerned was mentioned in the February 17 report.
