"Soft energy Europe", an NGO newsletter on renewable energy and sustainable energy planning, published by OVE (Danish Organization for Renewable Energy. Since 1975, OVE has worked for renewable energy in Denmark and has been deeply involved in the Danish development of windpower, solar systems and other kinds of renewable energy. Since then, they have expanded the aims of their work to further renewable energy and energy savings, development of energy plans for a sustainable future and to make energy questions into questions of public concern worldwide. Their Number 2 issue (March 1991) includes a directory of Energy Contacts in Europe, a list of about 300 East, West and Central European organizations working with renewable energy, conservation, etc., including address, phone and fax number, contact person and a short description. "Renewable energy for development", a newsletter of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), is distributed free of charge. SEI is an international research organization with offices in Stockholm, Sweden; Boston, Massachusetts, US; and York, England. The main themes of activities are presently global energy futures, climate change, biotechnology in agriculture and food security, and environmental ethics and economics. A major com-ponent of SEI's energy program is related to energy utilization and technologies in the Third World. March 27-29: Commemoration of the 12th Anniversary of the Three Mile Island Accident, CzechoSlovakia. Activities organized around the anniversary of the 1979 accident in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA by the Rainbow Movement together with Children of the Earth in four cities (Prague, Brno, Ceske Budejovice and Olomouc) to protest against nuclear waste dumping as well as nuclear energy in general, and to remind people that Chernobyl was not an exception. April 22-27: "Chernobyl Week" will be observed throughout the Ukraine. Organized by Zeleny Swit (Green World), the Foundation for Help to Victims of Environmental Disasters, the Kiev City Executive Committee, Green Help, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society arid the "Art-Press" Show Company. The program includes a roundtable discussion on "European Future and Environmental Problems of the Present" with the participation of politicians, parliamentarians, scientists, and representatives of public and non-governmental organizations; an Exhibition of Chernobyl Children's Art; a benefit concert; and an international conference on renewable energy titled: "Solar Energetics: European experience and the Ukraine". The aims of the conference are to organize collaboration on the use of clean energy systems and spread the information on renewable energy, energy efficient measures and technology. Also included will be a visit to the 30 km zone and Chernobyl nuclear plant and the opportunity to speak to current personnel (almost all are new, having replaced the workers new, having replaced the workers from the time of the accident). April 26-29: "Conference for a Nuclear Free 1990s", Washington, DC, USA. To stimulate the creation of a national grassroots safe energy strategy for the US. April 27-28: International Meeting on Nuclear Energy and March to the Temelin Nuclear Station in Czechoslovakia. Activists from Austria, Germany and Poland will meet with Czech and Slovakian activists at a site near the Temelin reactors. Following a visit to an exhibition on alternatives to nu-clear power, they will march to the Temelin reactors where a protest against nuclear power will be held. Contact: See March 27 entry.

June 23-28: Baltics-91, Leningrad, USSR. Sponsored by the Leningrad Green Party to bring together representatives of the Green movement, ecological organizations, individuals, and parliamentarians concerned about the fate of the Baltic region.
