Dear WISE Readers:

Just as we were finishing up pulling this NC together, we received some very unhappy news. Mads Knudsen of our WISE-Copenhagen relay has suddenly died. This is quite a blow. Those of us who have known him over the years as a dynamic force in the network and as a dynamic person in his own right, as well, are greatly saddened. We shall miss him. Our hearts go out too to the friends, family and colleagues he left behind.

Another of our colleagues, Stefan Braun, is about to leave us. Stefan has been with us in the Amsterdam relay for the last year—and—ahalf as a volunteer from the West German conscientious objectors organization, ASF. Stefan came to us with a lot of patience, which he found he needed as he a]so came to us at a time when our admini— stration was in absolute chaos and we on the NC staff were, to put it politely, totally disorganized. Anyway, he pulled us out of the mess and has kept us going not just with his organizational skills and patience, but with his gentle humor and smile as well. We'll miss him, too, but know that he is going back to good friends and an exciting field of study as he returns to schooL We wish him all the best.

Our final news is a request from you to be a bit patient with us as we will be a bit erratic in our publishing over the next few months. Due to the illness of our editor we expect to be a bit slow in getting things together for a while. But don't give up on us. With help from the other relays and from the many people out in the field who make these NCs possible, we'll keep them coming!

Peace, love and no nukes!
